The Creep-A-Thon is a year-long fundraising event for the Virginia Creeper Trail Club (VCTC), a local nonprofit organization that works to maintain, preserve, and promote the trail. 2009’s main project is to resurface the section of trail in Damascus. Lawrence “The Legend” Dye, VCTC’s Official Trail Ambassador, is 77 years old. He bikes the length of the Creeper Trail as often as possible. Since 1990 he has logged nearly 140,000 miles! In 2008 alone, he rode over 9,000 miles and hopes to make it to 10,000 this year. Individuals and businesses can support Lawrence’s amazing feat of health and recreation, as well as helping the VCTC by sponsoring him on a per mile basis for 2009. For example, a penny a mile for 10,000 miles would equal $100. One-time gifts (not mileage-based) are also accepted. Lawrence will receive none of the money. It all goes to the VCTC and all gifts are tax-deductible. Creep-A-Thon sponsors can track Lawrence’s progress via the VCTC website: www.vacreepertrail.org/dye. All sponsors and those making gifts of encouragement will be recognized online as well as in the newsletter. Please consider sponsoring Lawrence as he raises money for the Virginia Creeper Trail. Thank you! To sponsor Lawrence at a penny (or more) a mile or for a one-time donation, simply email your desired amount to virginiacreepertrailclub@gmail.com or download the sponsorship form and send it in. |
