New Pavilion at Alvarado
Dedicated to Martin Hassinger
The trail club is pleased to announce the recent construction of a new picnic shelter/pavilion along the Virginia Creeper Trail. Located adjacent to the Alvarado trailhead area, the shelter is on land along the South Fork of the Holston River recently given to the Town of Abingdon by Drs. Ann Hays and Jim Mann. Funds for the shelter itself were provided from gifts made to the Club in memory of Martin Hassinger of nearby Konnarock and Bristol. The plaque above the pavilion reads, "Sponsored by the Martin Hassinger Family & the Creeper Trail Club, September 2011". Labor and construction expertise was provided by Keith Linkous and other employees of the Abingdon Parks and Recreation Departement under the leadership of Kevin Worley.
